Some visitors have been experiencing difficulties viewing Flash items on the web site after updating their Flash plug-ins, please be aware that if you are using Internet Explorer and have downloaded the latest version, there may be an issue with the Flash version numbering, we had the same problem at Elgin Radio the other day and if you check the following it should sort out any issues you might be having -

Tech Talk

Streaming audio has been available for some time on the internet, but because of the variety of web browsers and operating systems in use globally, rather than have listeners download proprietary software like Real Audio Player, Quicktime etc, which may not be compatible with all operating systems, Elgin Radio has opted for the most widely used technology to stream it's broadcasts, which is Adobe Flash.

This does mean however that PC users will need to make sure that their web browsers are up to date with either the latest version of Internet Explorer or Mozilla's Firefox and make sure they have the latest version of Flash player installed to get the best from the service.

Elgin Radio has tried to use technology accessible to as many people as possible, and streams the broadcast at a rate that is compatible with broadband services, however if listeners are using older PC's with low power or memory they may have issues with glitching or stuttering if trying to operate another programme whilst listening to the service due to the PC's physical capabilities.

Common Problems

• I can't see any information apart from some pictures

About Elgin Radio

1. Does Elgin Radio broadcast on a terrestrial radio frequency?
   No, ER is purely an internet radio station due to the limitations of FM broadcasting in the Elgin area
2. Do you broadcast live or are the shows pre-recorded?
   Our shows are live between 2pm and 10 pm but we broadcast pre-recorded shows outwith those times
3. Does Elgin Radio actually broadcast from a shed?
   Yes, 'The Shed' was actually my garden shed but has since been modified and sound-proofed as a studio
4. Do you raise funds only for local charity?
   Yes, as a community radio station we feel it is important to support local charities as the more global charities get wider exposure
5. Can I become a radio presenter for Elgin Radio?
   Yes, you will first need to become an Elgin Radio Community Member and undergo a brief training period and assessment - for full details go to our membership page
6. Is there any paid employment with Elgin Radio?
   No, we are a purely voluntary organisation and rely on donations and sponsorship to keep running
7. How do I donate or become a sponsor?
   Go to our donations and sponsors pages and either click the 'Donate' button or fill in the Sponsorship form
